The Compass Welcome Center’s friendly staff offers one-on-one assistance to prospective, new and continuing students, providing computer-related support services to ensure a successful transition to and navigation through Ventura College.

Vincent Jimenez - Communications Assistant
Vincent started his educational journey at Ventura College in fall 2020, and became an alum in spring 2022. He began his professional career at Ventura College as a Student Worker in the Counseling department, before graduating and getting hired as a Communications Assistant at The Compass Welcome Center. He is passionate about  helping students navigate their college experience. In his free time, Vincent enjoys performing poetry at Slams, Open Mics, and teaching with California Poets in the Schools. He currently attends California State University Northridge (CSUN) and plans to become a teacher who motivates and pushes students to be the best version of themselves.

Princess Balderas - Student Services Assistant
Princess became a Student Ambassador at Ventura College Welcome Center in October of 2021. Before working at VC, she worked for her fathers’ company as a secretary. Princess is committed to helping students apply for college and guiding them through the admission process.  She is a graduate of Pacifica High School and was Editor-in-Chief of the yearbook team her junior and senior years. Princess loves being in nature, when she is not busy with school or work, you will find her with friends, spending time outdoors.

Jason Isais - Communications Assistant

Jason joined Ventura College in 2022 as a Student Outreach Assistant.  Working in outreach as a liaison for higher education, he built connections across Ventura County and within high school communities. In 2023, after graduating with an Associates of Arts for transfer in Political Science, Jason accepted a position at the Ventura College Welcome Center as a Communications Assistant.  He helps VC Pirates achieve their goals and make progress along their academic journey.  In his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends, trying new restaurants, and being an amateur chef at home. In the fall, Jason will be transferring to University of California Riverside.

Mark Huff – Student Services Assistant (He/Him/Él)

Mark Huff joined The Welcome Center team as a Student Services Assistant in July 2024. A Ventura native, Mark is a well-seasoned graduate of Ventura College, holding multiple degrees: an Associate of Science in Health Sciences, an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) in Psychology, and an Associate of Arts in Behavioral Sciences.

With a robust background in education, Mark has developed expertise in social and behavioral sciences, biological sciences, and social justice. His comprehensive understanding of these fields has been instrumental in his various roles, allowing him to approach student services with a well-rounded perspective. Mark has made significant contributions, most notably serving as the Associated Student Body President of Ventura College during the 2023-2024 academic year. In this role, he championed initiatives for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, advocating for underrepresented students on both state and national platforms. He also led a menstrual equity project that improved access to menstrual products and raised awareness about student health issues.

Currently, Mark is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Freedom and Justice Studies at CSU Channel Islands. His professional career goal is to become a Vice President of Student Affairs in Southern California, where he aims to reform higher education for community college students and enhance access to higher education for low-income communities.

In his role as a Student Services Assistant, Mark assists students in navigating the application and registration processes and leads special projects, including curating specialized tours for Career and Major Communities. Outside of work, Mark enjoys watching horror films, eating comfort foods and attending festivals with his close friends.

Manuel Munoz
Manuel became a Student Ambassador at the Welcome Center in the Fall of 2023. He is dedicated to helping students navigate the resources Ventura College has to offer so they can succeed to their fullest potential. His knowledge and experience in the various social science disciplines of history, sociology, and psychology make him a great point of reference for students exploring these fields. In moments of leisure, he enjoys watching films, painting, and playing soccer.

Debbie Battey - Communications Assistant
Debbie joined Ventura College in April of 2021, becoming part of the Welcome Center team as a Communications Assistant.  After living in Oregon the past 17 years, Debbie and her family returned to California and she is happy to be a part of the Ventura College community.  She has a long history of working in education as a volunteer in every level, from elementary, middle and high school. She is currently serving as a Parent Family Association Regional Representative for the University of Oregon. Debbie enjoys gardening, admiring the night sky, walks with her dog Roy, cheering her favorite sports teams and traveling with her husband to visit their son and daughter who are currently attending college. Debbie is a graduate of California State University, Chico with a BA degree in Information and Communication Studies.

Alma Severiano - Communications Assistant
Alma joined The Welcome Center as a Communications Assistant in spring 2022. Born and raised in the city of Ventura, Alma is a dual degree graduate of Ventura College. Alma earned her Associates of Arts degree in Business Management and Social Media Marketing. As a Communications Assistant, Alma helps students navigate from application to registration, in addition to spearheading special projects, such as the Welcome Center’s Instagram. Whenever possible, Alma enjoys spending time with friends, going on morning hikes, traveling and exploring new places.
