What is AI?

How can it be useful?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a new and innovated tool that has begun to change the way individuals research and prepare for the current job market. AI can provide you with valuable information that helps guide you through resume development, cover letter assistance, interview preparation and so forth. You can develop prompts or questions to ask AI in order to get detailed responses when you do not know where to start or are simply stuck. AI can also help breakdown career related tasks and provide step-by-step examples. AI is a useful tool in today’s society as it serves as a guide to be better equipped through your career development journey.

Using AI Ethically

While AI tools, such as ChatGPT, can serve as a vital resource, it is important to understand how to ethically use AI. AI is meant to be used to brainstorm and help generate ideas you have not thought about before. While it can serve as a starting point, AI is not meant to write your resume and cover letter for you. Your career portfolio should be your own original work. It should show case your own personal experiences and skills you have to offer. An employer should get a sense of your personality and voice through your resume, cover letter, and interview. Please review the Ventura College School Policy on Academic Dishonesty.

Remember!

Sample Prompts

When thinking about prompts and questions to ask AI, you have to make sure your questions are as clear as possible. Make your prompts or questions simple, but descriptive. This will help the AI tool generate the most accurate response that meets your needs and what you are looking for. You are also able to ask follow-up questions to get a more detailed response.

When it comes to using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, you need to remember to be honest with yourself and the work you turn in to a potential employer. Remember, the words you use on a resume or cover letter should match your voice and the way you speak. Make sure your usage of AI aligns with Ventura College’s Academic Dishonesty policies.
