Faculty Counselor/Coordinator
Dr. Rocío D. Hernández is a first-generation, Chicana/Latina, scholar-practitioner who currently serves as a Counseling Faculty member at Ventura College and oversees the CalWORKs program. Being originally from Ventura County, born and raised, she is invested in her community and the students she serves. Dr. Hernández has approximately 18 years of experience in higher education with service in different leadership capacities. She holds a B.A. in Chicana/o Studies and Spanish from the University of California, Santa Barbara, an M.S. in Counseling with an Option in College Counseling and Student Services from California State University, Northridge, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership with an Option in Higher Education Administration from the University of Southern California.

Jackie graduated with her Master's in Counseling and College Student Personnel from California Lutheran University and holds a B.A. in Psychology from CSU Channel Islands. As a first-generation college student, she understands firsthand the challenges of navigating the educational system and the importance of having a supportive and accessible network on campus. Her passion for helping students succeed stems from her own experiences and motivates her to empower others on their academic journeys. Jackie is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where students feel heard and supported in their pursuit of higher education.
