Mr. Fundi Legohn is a Southern California native who has been a music educator since 1980. He began his career as a music educator in Los Angeles, after earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education from California State University, Los Angeles in 1980. He has also earned a Master of Arts Degree in Music with an emphasis in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California in 1990. Mr. Legohn taught music in junior high school, from 1980-1984, before directing high school bands in Los Angeles Unified School District, at Jefferson High School (1984-1992) and at Oxnard High school from 1992 to the present. He also teaches Video Productions at OHS; including Digital Broadcasting through the Ventura County ROP Program.
As Performing Arts Director at OHS from 1992-2018, his marching band and music program has been showered with various sweepstakes, superior and other notable awards and honors. For an exciting eighteen-year period, Fundi scheduled, traveled and performed with his OHS band program various times in Mexico, two trips to Vancouver Canada, twice on cruises to the Bahamas, and several times to Hawaii. In 2004, the Oxnard High School Performing Arts Department was bestowed the honor of the Grammy Signature School Award; which is awarded by the Grammy Association to U.S. high schools for providing vigorous classes in Performing Arts. OHS was one of only 11 schools in the Nation to achieve that honor that year!
Mr. Legohn has five children; all were educated musically in his music program while attending OHS. Each of his children have also attained at least a Bachelor of Arts degree; as well as three of his children earning advanced degrees. Fundi enjoys travelling with his wife of one year-Dr. Martha McQueen Legohn, and is also a performing artist on French horn, percussion and voice.
