Name: Kim Hoffmans
Primary role at the college: President
Years of Service: I have worked in the VCCCD for over 26 years as a nursing faculty, dean, vice president of academic affairs, and as the president for the past 9 months. Working in the community college system is a dream job for me. I appreciate the opportunity to support the success of our students and employees through advancing education.
Family: My family is small; comprised of my husband for 32 years, a son, and a daughter. I like to think that my life-long support of education has rubbed off on my children. My son (26-years old) has a master’s degree in biology and is about to complete his second year of medical school. While applying to medical school, he taught anatomy in a community college for two years. My daughter (24-years old) is truly a “chip off the old block” because she is a registered nurse like me. For the past 2.5 years, she has worked on a cardiac unit at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. She has promised me that she will return for her master’s degree in nursing soon. Someday, I believe she will teach nursing and exceed my abilities entirely.
Hobbies: For hobbies, I like to snow ski, play (at) golf, and take walks. I wish I had more time for all of these activities.
Favorite Food: Mexican food is my favorite! I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day.
Favorite Movie: I am kind of a sci-fi nerd. I really enjoy Star Wars!
Favorite Song: This will probably not be a surprise to many of you but I love Country Music. If you listen closely as I walk around campus, you may hear me singing a few tunes.
Something fun, interesting, and/or unique about you: I was completely surprised by being selected for the “Faces in the Crowd” feature. During an Administrative Council meeting, we placed all administrator names in a bowl and picked names at random for each month. I must admit that I was a bit embarrassed that I was chosen.
One fun thing about me is that I have over 100 hours of time under water scuba diving. My father and I used to take really exciting trips in the summer before I married to places like Belize, Honduras, Grand Cayman Islands, and Mexico.
