VC Emergency Preparedness

Ventura College is making great progress in campus emergency preparedness improvements. Below are our current efforts to improve our Emergency Preparedness systems and processes.

  • Facilities, Maintenance & Operations are actively involved in campus renovations to make ADA compliant improvements to facilities as well as provide safety upgrades. Our F,M, & O Staff have been great at addressing all safety concerns submitted through the Onuma Work Order system.
  • VC IT conducts quarterly tests of our Emergency Notification System (ENS) campus wide. The most recent test took place on Thursday October 17th, 2024. If you experienced any issues with the ENS system, please report
it to IT via the Emergency Preparedness Form.
  • Every Spring Semester we provide campus wide safety trainings to faculty, staff, and students that address Fentanyl/Opioid Overdose, Basic Campus Emergency Procedures, CPR/First Aid, and Stop the Bleed Training.
  • On October 10, 2024, Emergency Preparedness Professional Development Training was provided to faculty and staff on our self-assigned Flex Day.
  • Every month,  the Safety and Wellness Committee meet to discuss campus safety concerns and improvements.

In addition to the above steps, Ventura College (as part of a districtwide contract) is working with Ketaily Technical Consulting (KTC) to improve our emergency preparedness and a number of projects are already underway. Mike Ketaily has over 30 years of experience, including as a Fire Captain and an instructor at Oxnard College Fire Academy. We look forward to the improvements we can make in our preparedness under KTC’s expert guidance. Some of the projects KTC are helping us with are below.

  • Bi-monthly IMT Tabletop exercises for VC Leadership, with the most recent training cycle beginning September 2024.
  • Basic Campus Emergency Procedure Trainings for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Annual campus facility safety audits
